Hello everyone.
This week in Literacy, we have been reading about 'Supertato' on his quest to defeat Evil Pea. We have been practicing using imperitive verbs to form commands to give to Supertato to help him trap Evil Pea in jelly.
In Maths, We have been learning about capacity of bottles. We did a really fun experiment with lots of bottles to measure which bottles were more than, less than or equal to 1 Litre.
Congratulations to James Jones who has won this weeks star badge for an excellent improvement in his handwriting. Keep it up James!
Please don't forget that it is sports week next week and sports day on Monday morning so P.E Kits need to be in
Another reminder is to make sure that you have signed the permission slip so that your child can come on the school trip. If we could have them ASAP, that would be brilliant. Thank You.
Have a good weekend!

As part of our Greek topic, Year 5 tasted Greek foods. Pita bread was the favourite and some children enjoyed the olives.
Q5 then had a great morning creating their own vegetable souvlaki. They had to learn cutting skills to cut the vegetables, using the bridge hold and claw grip.
Tomorrow, in our Inspire morning, they will cook them on the BBQ to share with their parents. Let's hope the weather is on our side. βοΈ

The Beginning of the End! - Week beginning Monday 5th June, by Mrs Potter
Date: 9th Jun 2017 @ 12:15pm
Welcome back everyone!
This short week has been a fun one! In Literacy, we have been learning all about the General Election. We have learned about the party leaders as well as some of their policies. We also participated in a school election on Wednesday which taught everyone how they will vote when they are older.
In Maths, we have been learning about reading scales, especially thermometers. This has involves a test of cold, tap and warm water. We got to see how the thermometer rose and can now read the temperature.
On Thursday, we had a special Science day which was lead by some Year 6 students. We got to see if we are good tasters. This involved putting blue food dye on our tongues to count how many taste buds we had in a certain area.
Congratulations to Sophie Crosbie who won this weeks star badge for always trying her best in every lesson. Well done Sophie!
See you all next week!

Our German Friends at Cowley, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 22nd May 2017 @ 4:45pm
What a fabulous day some of our Y6 German club have just had! Cowley were wonderful hosts as usual to us and some students from Bad Pyrmont who have come to visit England for a few days. We were welcomed by Mr Cormack before being taken on a guided tour by a very eloquent Y8 pupil called Jack. We were struck by the fantastic dress designs put together by Cowley students in Textiles and it made our pupils excited for when they can do this! Mr Watkins led a fabulous samba session where the German and English students performed musical instruments together. We then headed to the sixth form block for a fascinating session from Mr Jones on 3D printing. We designed our own key rings. The day continued with a lovely lunch (thank you Cowley) and a PE lesson. An all round great experience!
RSPB, by Miss Stubbs
Date: 19th May 2017 @ 3:43pm
Today, Steph came from RSPB. She explained that the RSPB is a charity and they have over 100 spaces for nature.
First, the children watched a video clip about nature and wildlife. They then discussed what they liked about the clip and why.
Steph asked the children what wildlife we have in our school grounds. She then helped the children group the creatures into vertebrate and invertebrate.
Outside:
Steph discussed food chains and food webs.
Outside, the children worked together to label the school grounds with different habitats. We investigated the quad, the EYFS outdoor area, the playground and the field.
Once we got back to class, the children discussed what they would have liked to see and how they could create a habitat to facilitate the creatures they would have liked to see.
Steph left us lots of 'how to guides' to help create a new habitat to encourage different creatures to our school grounds.

Today Steph came from the RSPB, she explained that the RSPB is a charity and they have over 100 spaces for nature.
She said the children might have seen the campaign, "Giving nature a home."
The children then watched a video and the children were given the opportunity to explain what they liked and why.
Steph then sorted creatures into vertebrates and invertebrates. Plants and trees were also included in the discussion.
The children then thought about what habitats may exist around school.
Vital for all things to survive: water, food and shelter. This is their habitat.
Science outside:
Step explained what a food web is.
Outside, the children worked together to label the school grounds with different habitats. We investigated the quad, the EYFS outdoor area, the playground and the field.
Once we got back to class, the children discussed what they would have liked to see and how they could create a habitat to facilitate the creatures they would have liked to see. Some groups would have liked to see hedgehogs and they were trying to think of a good place to create a hedgehog house.
Steph left us lots of 'how to guides' to help create a new habitat to encourage different creatures to our school grounds.
Squash Year 5, by Mrs Atherton
Date: 18th May 2017 @ 5:20pm
Hi my name is Kacey Gillespie, every Thursday our class plays squash. Each week we split up into teams of 5 and there are 6 teams playing. We have 2 men teaching us named Jim and John, these two men are very kind and teach us how to be perfect at squash. Every week we get better and every one has a good time. We all are trying our hardest so we can get chosen for a tournament against 4 other schools but Jim and John can only choose 12 children out of 60 so every one is competitive. In squash, 1 person marks, 2 play and the others watch ready for their next go. Sometimes the teachers even join in with us. Last week Mrs Atherton played Mrs Fishwick it was very fun to watch but also scary because we didn't know who was a going to win. Mrs Fishwick won, but at least Mrs Atherton had fun. Come and join in with the fun and join squash club on a Saturday morning 10:00 - 11:35, soon you might be good enough to be a professional squash player and you could go to competitions.
Kacey.
