Date: 4th May 2015 @ 10:44pm

The General Election is nearly here and we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to focus on the election and British Values all week in school.  We are going to be looking Democracy and what that means, the make-up of our Government and what it means to vote.  We will be having our own 'mock' vote in our very own Polling Station on Wednesday so the children get a real flavour of elections and what it means for our country.

Fish tank, by Mr Helsby

Date: 30th Apr 2015 @ 7:11pm

Today we set up our very own fish tank in class. Thanks to the Pets At Home visit we knew exactly what to do. First we placed the gravel into the bottom and then we placed some plants for decoration. Next, we filled the tank up with cold water but we remembered to treat the water with tap safe to ensure the water isn't poisonous to the fish. We then added the filter which will clean the water. Next week we will add some fish!

Well done to everyone in Year 4. Thanks to the parents for your fabulous support in helping the children learn their lines and assisting with costumes. Thanks to the support staff as well, creating props and making great adjustments during the final rehearsal.

But biggest thanks to the children for creating a wonderful performance. You should be extremely proud of yourselves.

First session after lunch was tennis and Mrs Walsh is really helping develop the children's skills. This week there was a particular focus on the backhand and the lesson ended in some small sided games.

We were so fast it was difficult for Miss Hope to take photographs. We really enjoyed our special lesson. Thank you for organising it Mrs Snee.

Pets At Home visit, by Mr Helsby

Date: 29th Apr 2015 @ 8:20pm

Today Sara from Pets At Home visited our school to tell us all about the life and habitat of snakes! She brought in a Corn Snake and a Python and told us that whilst Corn Snakes live in corn fields, Pythons like to live in long grass. They both enjoy a frozzen mouse for dinner too! Did you know that Corn Snakes can grow as tall as Mr. Helsby? We all were very excited to stroke and hold the snakes. We expected them to be slimey but actually they felt like leather.

We decorated our engines with ladders, hoses and sirens. In our Literacy work we wrote instructions for making a fire engine, so if you'd like to make a fire engine like ours ask one of 2H for the instructions.

Our visit to the Bakery, by Miss Hope

Date: 29th Apr 2015 @ 7:20pm

To set off our topic about the Great Fire of London we visited Blackburns bakery in Cambridge Rd.

We were able to buy some cakes from the Bakery and then enjoyed Afternoon tea back at school that afternoon.

We then set up a Pudding Lane Bakery role play area in our classroom. Playing in the bakery is a favourite activity during Golden Time. Buying and selling playdough cakes has given us practice with adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers.

Here are some photographs of our visit to Cambridge Rd.
