Day One of SATs , by Mrs Kellett
Date: 11th May 2015 @ 10:38pm
Today our Y6 children came in early to have breakfast with us. The choice was wide and varied. Crumpets, toast, croissants to name a few. Thanks to Mrs Platt for her 'extra' shopping at the weekend. It was a lovely atmosphere. The children were relaxed and well fuelled to begin their tests.
It was the reading test today - all went well! All the children worked extremely hard and did their very best! I am so proud of each and every one of them!
SPAG tomorrow! See you bright and early for breakfast
Good Luck to our Y6 Pupils , by Mrs Kellett
Date: 10th May 2015 @ 4:30pm
Tomorrow is the beginning of 'SATs' Week in school. Our Y6 children and staff have been working extremely hard in preparation. However, we are concerned that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you – the way your teachers do, the way I hope to, and certainly not the way your families do.
They do not know that you can play a musical instrument, love rugby or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day.
They do not know that sometimes you take care of your Mum, Dad, little brother or sister after school.
They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best… the scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.
So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart.”
Whatever 'level' you achieve next week, as long as you can honestly say to me, your teachers and your families, that you tried your best, what more can we ask!
Good luck -Y6
Maths Mastery , by Mrs Kellett
Date: 10th May 2015 @ 4:14pm
Last Thursday and Friday, Mrs Sharkey and I travelled to London to a conference all about Maths. We had to apply to be part of Maths Mastery and we were successful. This is a new initiative in St Helens with only 7 other schools taking part. I am very excited and I know it is going to improve how we teach Mathematics in school.

- Don't panic!
- We are very proud of you all!
Remember that there will be a breakfast club running from 8.30am for Y6 children. Children will have the chance to get a light breakfast and have a chat with friends before our tests begin.

During this afternoon the class were taught all about British democracy, the government and the whole voting system. We even had pupils adopting a political party and presenting their manifesto. The afternoon concluded with a vote and the results were displayed on the board. I wonder if this may mirror the actual outcome on Friday morning.
