Raising Aspirations at Queen's Park , by Mrs Kellett
Date: 5th Jul 2015 @ 10:06pm
This year, Y5 and Y6 at Queen's Park have been working with St Helens Chamber on a business enterprise scheme. The final session was held today. We had a 'Careers Carousel' in the hall. Over 15 different companys/jobs were represented from Nursing to Ice-Skating to Asda. The children prepared questions to ask the different companys. This gave our children a real flavour of the world of work and hopefully inspire some of them to look further into a particular career.
Another first for Queen's Park! One of our core values is aspiration and I really feel that this activity enable our children to at least start to think about work and how important it is to choose the right career.
Thank you to Natale from the St Helens Chamber who helped to organsie and Mrs Platt from school who is as ever, always on hand to help!
Careers carousel , by Mrs Platt
Date: 4th Jul 2015 @ 8:00am
We held our first ever careers carousel here at Queen's Park on Friday afternoon and it was a great success!
Massive thanks should go to Natalie from St Helens Chamber who invited a wide variety of businesses to our event and to our Queen's Park parents and carers who volunteered their time to come and speak with our children.
The children were able to move around the carousel and ask questions about different careers and professions. There were a variety of industries and professionals who attended, e.g. ASDA, M&S, Silver Blades Ice Rink, DWP, QVC and Clarks to name but a few.

Police Visit Y5, by Mrs Kellett
Date: 2nd Jul 2015 @ 7:59pm
On Thursday, we were visited by the Community Police to talk to the children all about keeping themselve safe around the community and on the internet. I was amazed by how much the children knew about the internet and it really made me aware of how vulnerable our children are in the new world of technology. Please keep tabs on your child's use of the internet. It is so important!

World of Glass, by Mrs Hanson-Jones
Date: 30th Jun 2015 @ 10:13pm
What a day!
After walking to the World of Glass with the leaders at world record marathon pace, we arrived in one piece, if not a little warm. We enjoyed a variety of workshops including watching a glassblowing demonstration, glass painting, finding out what the Romans had to do with glass making and watching a short film about the why and how St Helens became world famous for glass.
It wasn't all hard work and learning - we also explored the mirror maze and even found time to eat some lunch.
A big thankyou must go to all the helpers who came with us.
Keep watching this space for photographs.

Robot Art - Eric Joyner, by Mrs Hanson-Jones
Date: 20th Jun 2015 @ 10:44pm
We used watercolours today to create a background for our robot art. Miss Gauld showed us two techniques, wet brush on wet paper, then wet brush on dry paper. We decided which one gave us the best finish then placed a printed robot in position to give us an idea of what our finished piece of art work might look like.
Keep watching this space as our topic develops.
